Speedway Scene is committed to accurate, independent and consequential journalism. This policy sets out the standards our reporters and editors are bound by, and the principles our readers are entitled to hold us to.
Accuracy is our first obligation. We verify facts before publication, seek primary sources and corroboration wherever possible, and draw a clear line between what is confirmed, what is reported by others and what is analysis. We do not overstate what is known, and we update stories as the facts develop.
Our editorial judgment is governed by the public interest and the needs of our readers. It is never dictated by advertisers, commercial partners, political affiliation or the personal interests of staff, and we accept no payment for coverage.
Wherever possible we identify our sources, link to primary materials and give readers the context to weigh a claim for themselves. We grant anonymity only when the information serves the public interest and cannot be reported another way, and only with editorial approval. We do not pay sources for information.
We maintain a firm distinction between straight reporting and commentary. Analysis and opinion are labeled as such, so readers always know what they are reading. Opinion writers are free to argue a case but remain bound by the same duty to be accurate and fair.
We give people and organizations a fair opportunity to respond to significant claims about them, and we represent opposing views honestly. Reporting on sensitive subjects is handled with care for those involved.
Reporters and editors must avoid conflicts of interest that could compromise our coverage, and must disclose any relevant financial holdings, relationships or affiliations. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, it is disclosed to readers.
Editorial judgment, reporting and final responsibility always rest with people. Any tools used to assist production never replace human verification, and we publish nothing that an editor has not reviewed.
When we make a mistake, we correct it openly and promptly. Our full approach is set out in the Corrections Policy. If you believe we have published an error, tell us through the Contact page.
