Battery certification data surfacing through Samsung-focused outlet GalaxyClub has produced the strongest evidence yet that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will finally break the capacity ceiling that has defined Samsung's flagship line since 2020, with a cell rated at 5,534 mAh, according to reporting from 9to5Google published on July 27.

Rated figures understate the marketing number manufacturers print on spec sheets, and 9to5Google calculates that the filing points to a Galaxy S27 Ultra sold with a battery of roughly 5,700 to 5,800 mAh. For comparison, the current Galaxy S26 Ultra carries a rated capacity of about 4,850 mAh and is marketed at 5,000 mAh, the same headline figure Samsung has shipped on every Ultra since the Galaxy S20 Ultra six years ago.

Battery Ceiling Cracks After Seven Generations

Stagnant battery capacity has been the most persistent criticism of Samsung's premium phones. While Chinese rivals moved aggressively to silicon-carbon cell chemistry and pushed flagship capacities past 6,000 mAh, Samsung held the Ultra line at 5,000 mAh for seven consecutive generations, leaning on chipset efficiency gains to defend battery life scores. Leak-tracking coverage from PhoneArena and the aggregator BigGo had earlier floated capacities approaching 6,000 mAh for the next Ultra, so the certification-derived estimate of 5,700 to 5,800 mAh reads as a modest trim to expectations rather than a disappointment.

Chemistry is the enabler. The silicon-carbon cells expected in the Galaxy S27 series debuted in Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 line, according to 9to5Google, and pack more energy into the same physical volume than conventional lithium-ion designs. That allows Samsung to raise capacity without thickening a device that competes partly on how it feels in hand.

Sister models benefit as well. The same reporting cites a rated capacity of 5,087 mAh for the Galaxy S27 Pro, which would likely be marketed at 5,200 to 5,300 mAh, a healthy step up from its predecessor tier.

Regulatory filings record the minimum guaranteed capacity of a cell, while marketing figures round up to typical capacity, which is why a 5,534 mAh rating translates to a spec sheet number several hundred milliamp-hours higher. Filings of this kind tend to appear six to eight months before launch, once battery suppliers lock in production designs, which makes them among the more dependable categories of pre-release evidence. Design details can still change; final certified capacity rarely does.

Four Models Redraw Samsung's Flagship Ladder

Capacity is only half of the story circulating this week. GSMArena, citing German publication WinFuture, reported on July 24 that Samsung is preparing four models under internal codenames NM1 through NM4: the Galaxy S27, S27 Plus, S27 Pro and S27 Ultra. The Pro designation is new to the S series and slots between the Plus and the Ultra, offering flagship-grade cameras without the S Pen stylus that remains exclusive to the top model.

It also creates a home for buyers who want the best cameras and silicon but have never used the S Pen, a group Samsung's own usage data has long hinted is substantial.

Chipset allocation may prove contentious. Per the WinFuture data relayed by GSMArena, the S27 Pro would use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor only in select regions and Samsung's own Exynos 2700 elsewhere, reviving a split that has drawn criticism from buyers in Exynos markets in past generations. For the Ultra, leak coverage compiled by PhoneArena and others points to Qualcomm's next flagship platform, reportedly built on a 2-nanometer process and paired with LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. All four models are said to gain a privacy-focused display feature that limits off-axis viewing.

Camera Overhaul Led by a 200 Megapixel Sensor

Imaging hardware appears to be getting its deepest revision in years. Reports collated by PhoneArena and Geeky Gadgets describe a redesigned rear array arranged in a horizontal pill-shaped bar, breaking from the floating vertical lenses Samsung has used since the Galaxy S22 era. Anchoring the system would be a 200-megapixel main sensor, identified in leaks as Samsung's HP6, reportedly gaining a physical variable aperture for the first time on the Ultra.

Supporting hardware also steps up. WinFuture's data has the S27 Pro and Ultra sharing a 50-megapixel ultrawide built on Sony's IMX855 sensor, while separate leak coverage points to a 50-megapixel periscope with 5x optical zoom. On the front, a 16-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus would replace the long-serving 12-megapixel unit, with GSMArena noting optical stabilization is under consideration. Display leaks describe a 6.9-inch flat LTPO OLED using Samsung's new M16 emitter materials.

February 2027 Timing Sharpens the Stakes

Every source in the current wave converges on an early 2027 launch, with Techloy reporting a February target consistent with Samsung's usual Unpacked calendar. That timing places the phone directly against Apple's spring lineup and a Chinese flagship cohort that will already be shipping large silicon-carbon batteries and 2-nanometer silicon.

Commercial pressure on the Ultra tier is real. Premium handsets above 800 dollars are the only segment of the smartphone market still growing meaningfully, and the Ultra carries Samsung's margins in the way the Pro Max does for Apple. Two consecutive generations of conservative updates have given reviewers little to distinguish an S26 Ultra from its predecessor beyond silicon, and upgrade cycles have stretched accordingly. Caution is still warranted. Certification filings capture engineering samples, and marketed capacities, sensor choices and regional chipset splits have all shifted between leak and launch in previous cycles. Samsung has said nothing on the record about any of these specifications. Still, the direction of travel is unusually consistent across independent sources: a bigger battery at last, a new four-model lineup, and a camera system rebuilt around the 200-megapixel sensor.
